Brenda sang "Sweet Nothins, Dum Dum, and I'm Sorry". She was fantastic and
received three (spontaneous) standing ovations from the audience after the
songs along with the standing ovations as she was inducted.
Paul Schaffer and the orchestra were wonderful. They did the original opening with violins on "I'm Sorry" and the opening piano/organ on "Dum Dum." Brenda's trophy is really nice and really heavy and I am sure she will find a special place for it. Brenda was the first person inducted. There were a couple of opening speeches, then Isaac Hayes did "Shaft"-it was wonderful. Then, there was a short video about Brenda, Jewel inducted Brenda with a really nice speech. She read the whole thing but told Brenda she was really excited but really nervous at getting the chance to induct her. Then, Brenda came on and gave a very nice acceptance speech. Then, she performed her three songs. After that, Brenda went and did interviews for around a half hour or so and then she was back at her table. She and Ronnie left after Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. We had our own party in their suite until they left on their bus around 2:45 AM and we had a ball! It was interesting watching from the balcony because we could watch everything that was going on. Brenda seemed like the only person who signed autographs or had pictures taken the entire evening. One of the Ramones came over with several albums to get signed. Bob Dylan's son came over with several pictures that he asked Brenda to sign. Brenda just seems so comfortable around the rock crowd. It was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience which I will never forget. I cannot put it into words. Being there supporting Brenda was just so important to me and I know how appreciative she was that she had a few friends/fans there to support her on this once in a lifetime occasion. It was worth every cent that I spent and I am so glad that I went. Of course, Brenda was the best performance but I also really enjoyed a song done by Sam (of Sam and Dave) along with Isaac Hayes. |
